Overview Location
One of the most famous trekking routes in the world is the Everest Base Camp Trek, which takes place in Nepal’s Khumbu region. At Everest Base Camp itself, it takes hikers to the foot of Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world (8,848.86 meters/29,031.7 feet), with a maximum walking elevation of 5,364 meters (17,598 feet). The journey is moderately to very tough because of the altitude and rough routes, and it usually takes 12 to 14 days to finish. The adventure begins with an exhilarating flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and continues with trekking through Sherpa villages, monasteries, and the breathtaking scenery of Sagarmatha National Park, covering a distance of about 130 kilometers round trip. Trekking Permit Requirements
Two permits are required:
- Khumbu Rural Municipality Permit
- Price: NPR 2,000 (around USD 15)
- Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit
- NPR 3,000 (around USD 22–25)
✅ Obtaining permits in Kathmandu or Lukla/Monjo is simple.
Accommodation and Food
- Teahouses/Lodges: Depending on altitude, it might be comfortable or extremely simple. Limited amenities (shared restrooms, no heating) are present in some higher lodges.
- Food: Wide variety — Dal Bhat, pasta, noodles, fried rice, pizza, soups, tea, coffee, and bakery items in places like Namche Bazaar.
